Regular musings about those things most important in life--especially family, music, and college athletics. I hope you laugh. Please don't throw rocks at me.

NCAA Top 25

Yeah, I know it's been a while, but in the words of my father, "I been real busy. Just cause you want me to hold your hand all the time don't mean the old man can always get off work just to baby around and breastfeed you until you're thirty. Grow up kid."

But enough about my upbringing.

Here is this week's Top 25:

1. Ohio State 7-0 – Hands down, the most consistent team in college football. They have a solid resume and deserve the #1 ranking.

2. West Virginia 6-0 – The Mountaineers have a punishing offense that takes no crap from anyone. They can kill you with the best RB in college football whose collar bone isn’t broken, or they can kill you with the best running QB in all of college football. Oh yeah…and they can throw too. Undefeated.

3. Michigan 7-0 – This team has balance in every phase of the game and have proven that they can rise to the big road game. But can they pull off the win in their most important rivalry game?

4. Louisville 6-0 – Brian Brohm is back but looked a little shaky against a decent Cincy squad. He will need to get a lot better really quickly if they plan on beating WV on Nov. 2.

5. USC 6-0 – This team is not playing like a champion, they are scrapping out hard wins against lesser opponents. They are playing not to lose what has already been gained by the program, not to reach new heights. This team will lose to Cal if they do not improve.

6. Texas 6-1 – The only team they have lost to is the consensus #1. They trounced Oklahoma and pretty much have the Big 12 championship game left on their schedule. Of course, giving up 31 to Baylor still leave a lot to practice on.

7. Arkansas 5-1 – A simple “I told you so” should suffice, but I will also point out to you that if the Hogs can beat LSU, they own the SEC West. Their only loss was to USC. This team is really good this year, and just may play their way into the BCS.

8. Auburn 6-1 – This team is solid as a rock on defense and great on the ground, but if you can make them throw, they look very average. The only problem is, only Arkansas has been able to make them throw.

9. Florida 6-1 – A tough loss to a tough Auburn team doesn’t do in the Gators. They still hold their own fate in their hands because they beat Tennessee head to head. Perhaps this loss will stop the entire Gameday cast from pronouncing Tim Tebow to be the next Pope, President, and Oscar Nominee. Jeez, I mean, he’s good, but let’s not overestimate a double-pump pass that 90% of safeties in college would have picked off.

10. Tennessee 5-1 – This week is crucial for both UT and Bama. If UT wins (and they should) they really need one more Florida loss to make it mean more than a Citrus Bowl. If they lose, then it may mean that UT has to settle for the Citrus Bowl. Wait…

11. California 6-1 – Okay, so even though I was surprised by Cal’s loss to Tennessee in week one, the truth is that I was actually pretty right about them being really good and about QB Nate Longshore getting it done. I still think that this is the year they beat USC.

12. Clemson 6-1 – This team is one BC last-second loss away from being perfect. Good things happen when you stick with a Bowden…unless it’s Terry, or Bobby for the last few years (and that really means his retarded son who calls the offensive plays). Anyways, they saved his job and Will Proctor rules.

13. Notre Dame 5-1 – Here come the Irish. They are still really good, but they haven’t looked it in weeks. What have you done for me lately?

14. Boston College 5-1 – Okay, so no one tell this team that they aren’t supposed to be good for another year or so. It will spoil the surprise.

15. Georgia Tech 5-1 – This team looks like they might be pretty good. Interestingly, they have the second most consistent QB in the ACC.

16. Oregon 5-1 – Okay, so this team is the third best team in the two-team Pac1 10 race.

17. LSU 5-2 – Someone has to be third in the SEC West. Why not the Tigers?

18. Boise State 6-0 – Still undefeated, still haven’t played anybody worth ranking them any higher than this.

19. Rutgers 6-0 – Also undefeated—the feel good story of the year. They will lose soon, but I am so proud of the Scarlet Knights.

20. Missouri 6-1 – Okay, so I thought all their talent went to the NFL?

21. Nebraska 6-1 – Another decent not great Big 12 North team. Yawn…

22. Wake Forest 6-1 – Now here is a story. Who would have ranked WF as the best football school in North Carolina?

23. Texas A&M 6-1 – Coach Fran is saving his job, but reality and the schedule will catch up with them soon.

24. Oklahoma 4-2 – I am not sure that this team should be ranked, but it gives me the chance to say goodbye to Adrian Peterson. I will see you again come draft day in my fantasy keeper league. I have the first pick. Until then, heal up, friend.

25. Wisconsin 6-1 – Alright, the badgers are pretenders when it comes to being elite, but their friendly schedule may land them in a fight for the Big 10 title.

Enjoy.

God save the Cheese.

LSU will beat Arkansas handily. Mark it down. And I'll take them over Tennessee also -- but I'm not quite as confident on that one.

p.s. As usual, in your BCS driven thinking, you've got WV and Louisville way to high. I just hope they appreciate only having to play 2.5 real games a year.
